Itinerary:

Day 1. Georgetown
Arrive in Guyana, formerly British Guyana. This now independent country is the most western of the three Guyanas.  Transfer to the capital Georgetown and overnight at Ocean Spray.

Day 2. Georgetown - Marvelous Kaieteur Waterfall
After breakfast, take a flight to Kaieteur, the second world’s highest free-falling waterfall.  After Venezuela’s Angel Falls, 100 meters wide created as the Potaro River makes a sheer drop of 228 meters, nearly five times the height of Niagara. The spectacle is the more impressive for its remoteness and it is altogether possible that we’ll be the only persons viewing it.  Here, we hope to find White-chinned and White-tipped Swifts swirling over the gorge, and perhaps we’ll be lucky enough to see the astonishingly colorful Guyanan Cock-of-the-Rock close by, the White-tailed Goldenthroat or Musician Wren. Orange-breasted Falcon can be seen over the gorge as it hunts for swifts. The flight then continues onto Orinduik Falls before returning to Georgetown. Overnight at Cara Lodge.

Day 3. Georgetown - Rock view
Breakfast. Transfer to Ogle Airstrip to take the flight to Rock View Lodge at Annai. Rock View Lodge is located where the savannah meets the forest-covered foothills of the Pakaraima Mountains.  With its tropical gardens and flowering trees, the lodge resembles an oasis in the savannah, and attracts many species of birds, particularly nectar feeders and frugivores.  Nearby patches of light forest are home to certain ant birds and flycatchers, and of course the grasslands support an avifauna of their own.  Overnight at Rock View Lodge.

Day 4. Rock view Lodge - Surama
Breakfast. This morning transfer by 4x4 to the Amerindian community at Surama. On arrival in Surama, receive a welcome from a village counselor and settle into your accommodation.  A local guide will escort you for a short walk on trails to observe the forest and bird life.  As the afternoon cools your guide will take you on a tour of the village.  Visit the local school, medical centre and church along with some of the village houses. On this night, enjoy an educational walk to observe wildlife and experience the mystique of the forest after dark. Overnight at Surama Eco Lodge.

Day 5. Surama

Rise before dawn for a walk across the savannah and then the gentle climb up Surama Mountain in the cool morning air.  This is the best time to observe bird life along the trail.  Breakfast will be served at a lookout point which affords incredible views across the village and savannah to the Pakaraima Mountains.  Return to village for lunch and then take a three-mile walk across the savannah and through the rainforest to the Burro Burro River. Your guides will then paddle you on the Burro Burro River for opportunities to observe Giant River Otters, Tapir, Tira, Spider Monkeys and many more species.  Return to village for sunset and to overnight at Surama Eco Lodge.

Day 6. Surama - Canopy Walkway - Georgetown
Before dawn transfer to the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway to welcome the dawn chorus from 35m up in the tree tops.  Breakfast at the Canopy Walkway before departing by 4x4 for Annai. Lunch at Rock View Lodge before an afternoon flight to Georgetown.  Overnight at Ocean Spray.

Day 7. Georgetown - Paramaribo

You will see fishermen in the area pull in their shrimping and you will visit the fish-smokery.  Overnight at the Residence Inn.

Day 9. Jodensavanne & Colakreek
This morning we will travel approximately 70 km to the South of Paramaribo, where on the right bank of the Suriname River, lies Jodensavanne.  A former Jewish settlement, it is named after the Jewish people who settled in this savanna area around 1650. This former Jewish villagope is where the ruins of the most ancient synagogue of North and South America lies and the graveyard can still be seen.  Nowadays, these remnants have been cleaned and a simple cottage has been set up as a museum. The tour continues to recreation park Colakreek where you have the opportunity to swim and relax in the refreshing water. The leaves falling in the water give the creek its dark color which looks like that of the Coca Cola drink, hence the name Colakreek.  Overnight at the Residence Inn.
